Overview

The European Union has devoted constant efforts to devise a strategy for achieving ‘smart' urban growth for its metropolitan city-regions.
Interest in Smart Cities is motived by major challenges, including
climate change, economic restructuring, the move to online retail and entertainment, ageing populations and pressures on public finances. The Leipzig Charter on Sustainable European Cities (2007) and Europe 2020 (2011) are the documents that promote an integrated system of actions related to Smart Cities.

In this blog we will bring together examples, researches, analysis and policy ideas about European Smart Cities and Smart Lands. Our aim is to show how an urban territory can be a good place to live, offering the best possible quality of life, with the lowest possible use of resources.
